Sony ILME FX6

One of the FX6's biggest strengths is its size. It's small and light enough to comfortably carry all day, making it a favourite for documentary filmmakers, travel productions and content creators who spend long days shooting on location. At the same time, it offers many of the features expected from a much larger cinema camera, making it equally at home on professional productions where reliability and workflow are essential.

Unlike many mirrorless cameras, the FX6 includes a professional XLR audio handle, providing two balanced XLR inputs with full manual audio level controls and phantom power. This allows professional microphones to be connected directly to the camera without requiring an external recorder. It also features Timecode In/Out, making it easy to synchronise multiple cameras or external audio recorders for live events, interviews and multi-camera productions.

The camera uses Sony's versatile E-Mount, giving full compatibility with Sony's outstanding G Master lenses and real-time face and eye tracking autofocus. It can also be easily adapted to Canon EF lenses or PL mount cinema lenses, making it equally suited to lightweight documentary work or high-end narrative productions using professional cinema glass.

Camera comes with an on-board top mic for ambient audio, we have a range of additional microphones available to hire, whether it's a shotgun mic  for vox pops or quick interviews, or a tie-clip radio mic. .

The FX6 is capable of recording in a wide range of professional codecs, including 4K recording at up to 120fps for impressive slow-motion footage. To unlock these highest-quality recording formats and frame rates, the camera uses CFexpress Type A media. Our cameras are supplied with 2 x 80GB CFexpress Type A cards as standard, with additional cards available to hire  for longer productions.

Additional battery power such as the Hedbox 95Wh BP-fit batteries also available.

Although the FX6 can be mounted on larger gimbals, it's worth bearing in mind that for most setups the XLR audio handle will need to be removed to reduce the height and weight of the camera. Even then, it sits towards the upper end of what many compact gimbals are designed to carry. If your production is heavily focused on gimbal operation, a smaller camera such as the Sony A7S III  or FX3  may prove a more practical choice.

When you hire camera and lens combinations from us we endeavour to provide as few bags as possible, keeping the kit safe and well protected but without multiple boxes to travel around with.
